Tanzania Scuba Diving Holiday

The best diving in East Africa is to be found around Pemba Island in northern Tanzania where we offer two liveaboards.

Pemba Island is a remote Island off the Coast of Northern Tanzania approximately 33 miles in length the diving is excellent throughout and is widely regarded as being home to the best diving in East Africa.

Magnificent hard and soft coral gardens are alive with large schools of pelagic marine life, giant Mantas, Turtles, Anemones and reef fish of every imaginable species. Although the diving is spectacular all around the island the most dramatic sites are to be found on the rough East side of the island. This area is characterised by deep walls and fast currents, ideal for the larger pelagic life, especially Hammerheads! Although the sea around here can be very rough the liveaboard boat can shelter in one of the many estuaries where the water is like a mill pond and rough water need only be encountered when venturing out in the small boats for each dive.

The Kisiwani has been operating in this area for many years and so has built up an excellent knowledge of the best dive sites. She is backed up with first class service and undoubtedly the best food we have tasted on any liveaboard ! We can also offer a mix of a 3/4 day liveaboard with a land based stay on Pemba Island.

Itinerary / Highlights

Tanzania offer a wide choice of activities both above and below the water including some of the most stunning safari parks in the world. When constructing your holiday itinerary we can include a Kenya or Tanzanian safari (or both) starting at just 2 nights. Safaris depart from Arusha or Kilimanjaro.
Lake Manyara

At the base of the Rift Valley wall, this National Park sustains a wealth of wildlife, nourished by the water which falls over the cliffs above. Acacia woodland shelters the parks famous but elusive tree climbing lions. Hot springs can be found in the south of the park, and hippo wallow near the lakes borders. The park is host to some 400 varieties of bird including cormorants, pelicans and thousands of flamingo.
Serengeti

This National Park covers an area of some 15,000 sq. km (9,000 sq. miles), and is Tanzania's most famous national park. During the famous annual wildebeast migration, more than 1 million wildebeest, 200,000 zebra and 300,000 gazelle gather together to undertake the long trek to the new grazing lands. The sunburnt savana of the Serengeti is transformed when the rains come, into an endless green carpet flecked with wild flowers.

The park covers 14,763 sq km of endless rolling plains (see map), which reach up to the Kenyan border and extends almost to Lake Victoria. The park is teaming with stunning wildlife - it is thought that over 3 million large mammals roam the plains. In May or early June you can witness the annual migration of millions of zebra and wildebeest in search of water and forage as the seasons change.
Ngorongoro Crater

Land of the Masai: The park is located between the Serengeti and Lake Manyara. It is home to the famous volcanic Ngorongoro crater which is the largest unbroken caldera in the world. The crater (610 metres deep and 260 km squared) is a microcosm of East African scenery and game and is usually visited on the way back from the Serengeti to Arusha. Scenic grandeur and stunning views are the hallmark of this wonder of the world. All the lodges are built high on the crater rim and afford amazing views over and into the crater - the perfect setting for a well deserved sundowner.
Mount Kilimanjaro

Located at the north/eastern tip of Tanzania. For the adventurous, a climb of Mount Kilimanjaro is a must taking you through the mists of equatorial jungle to reach the snows and breath-taking views from the summit.
The upward track winds through forests that vary constantly with the altitude and finally opens out into open moorland below rocky, snow covered Kibo plateau. It has 3 volcanic centres, Shira, Kibo, and Mawenzi. Seven & eight day climbs are easily arranged from Moshi , and is the perfect start to your trip in Tanzani
